He held onto it like a lifeline.
And that line never broke. »

❄ From Gap to Nîmes — Jacqueline's child — 1978 to 2010
The arrival

Born in Gap, on a 28th of April

Jacqueline gave birth on 28 April 1978 in Gap. Mamie Solange held the child in her arms. Samuel Ludovic. A Hebrew name, without knowing it yet.

In 1986, at the Nîmes court, Samuel Ludovic became Samir Aziz. The old names are still there in the family register — crossed out, with the court stamp. Two names erased. But nothing is ever truly erased.

« He had Jacqueline. And Jacqueline alone was already more than most people receive in an entire lifetime. »
Her gentleness

What she passed on
without ever saying so

She never put it into words. She never gave speeches about strength, courage, or dignity. She simply lived. And he watched.

She had taught him to be filled with wonder. Standing at the window in Nîmes, she would cry out like a little girl. She was twenty-three. She had already lived several lives. And the snow drew from her this pure, uncalculated, unreserved joy.

« It's snowing! It's snowing! »
— Jacqueline at the window · Chapter Six

She had taught him to stand tall. Not by saying so. By doing it, every day, in front of him.

The memories

What he keeps

The snowJacqueline at the Nîmes window, crying out it's snowing like a little girl. The most beautiful memory of his childhood.
🛍The bags at the doorShe left shopping bags at his door even when he wouldn't open it. She left without saying a word. She came back.
🎵The mint teaShe made tea, opened the windows, put on music in the night. Such a small gesture. An act of resistance.
🌿The cratesHe brought vegetables from the market. She looked at them. Not the vegetables — her son. What he was becoming.
🏥The hospitalShe slept on a cot at Carémeau, watching at the slightest breath. She did not sleep because she loved him too much to close her eyes.
The secretAt twenty-nine, in a closed room, she revealed Bibih. And she wept for what she had been carrying from the very beginning.
